BST Battery Safety Terminal

BMW’s since 1998 have included a safety feature that disconnects the main battery cable in the event of a wreck.

This device while very handy safety wise has caused quite a few people grief when they are left stranded after a fender bender.

This diagram shows how it works.

This explains how it works.

When the connector discharges its a one shot deal. So the connector has to be replaced for you to be able to crank your BMW again.

So what is the proper way to repair your vehicle after the connector has discharged?

Now this next picture explains why some things work and some don’t after the connector has discharged.

I will try to find some shots on different methods to bypass the connector for those that don’t want to buy the repair kit later.

Hopefully this will explain things a bit better.
